The Ranch Select

The Select season will run January 1st through the end of March. Select is a competitive program that allows girls to receive extra coaching and playing in addition to the recreational season. Once the recreational season begins in February, Select will only play on Sundays.
Interest in Select and participation in the assessments does not guarantee placement on a Select team. If your daughter is not selected, she will still be able to play in the Rec season.
  • Number of teams will be based on Manager/Coach availability and Players registered
  • Hope to field teams in all divisions – 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U
Mandatory Assessments will span 12/12-12/14, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. (yes, 3 Days) at RB Fields

Mandatory Assessments have been postponed due to USA Softball rules.  New date will be announced soon!

  • Team formations will be based on Manager/Coach assessments AND Board approval
  • Coach applications and player registration due by 12/3
  • Because the assessments have been postponed, the due date for coach applications and player registrations has been postponed as well.  Deadline is TBD.
  • Players are required to play in the Spring season to participate in Select
  • Participation in Select teams does not guarantee participation in ALL-STARS
  • Additional fees to be collected from Select participants based on umpire fees for friendlies and tournament entry fees. This can vary based on individual team schedules.

What is the Select Program?

The Select Program was formed by USA Softball (our league's governing body) to provide a more competitive environment for highly skilled Recreation league players. Select is a competitive program that allows girls to receive extra coaching and playing in addition to the recreational season.

What Is The Extra Time Commitment?

In addition to playing on a regular The Ranch Spring team, girls who play in the Select program will play with a different group of teammates. The Ranch Select teams will begin practice/play in January - March 31. For comparison, Spring teams will remain together from late January until the year-end tournament concludes in May.

January - March practices will be held on Sunday only. Time commitment on Sundays will vary from week to week, based on a variety of things. Some Sundays might be open, some might have a practice, but other Sundays might require a much longer time commitment due to a tournament-style game schedule and/or possible travel to other fields in San Diego County.

Select practices and games will be in addition to Spring practices and games, not in place of them. Spring Rec will take priority and if you are unable to commit time to both teams you should not sign up for Select.

Who Is Eligible To Participate In The Select Program?

The program is available to girls in the 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions. All girls in these age groups are eligible for consideration, though not all players are guaranteed to be selected for a team. Players can't "play down" out of their age group in Select. Interested participants must be registered for the current Spring season with The Ranch Girls Softball. Players are expected to participate fully with their The Ranch Spring team as well.

How Are Teams Selected For The Select Program?

The number of teams for each age group to be determined by number of players interested and coach commitment. The Managers selected for Select for each division, along with the appropriate Player Agent, shall meet and create draft rosters for each team. These recommended teams shall be submitted to the Board for review, amended if necessary, and final approval. Interest in Select and participation in the assessments does not guarantee placement on a Select team. If your daughter is not selected, she will still be able to play in the Rec season.

Who Will Be Coaching The Select Teams?

The Rules Committee will review all Manager applications and provide recommendations to the board for approval.  Applicants may be asked to attend a board meeting to answer any questions before a selection is made.

How Does Select Impact All Stars?

Select participation has no bearing or weight on the All Star selection process. Girls that choose not to play or are not chosen for Select are still eligible and strongly encouraged to try out for All Stars. Select participation does not guarantee a spot on the All Star teams.

How much does B Select cost?

Select fees are to be determined, it is dependent upon friendlies and tournaments.
