What is the B Select Program?
The Select Program was formed by USA Softball (our league's governing body) to provide a more competitive environment for highly skilled Recreation league players. B Select is a way for girls who are interested in playing All-Stars in the Summer to start playing together, while also participating on their Spring team. Teams will participate in extra practices, friendlies and a few tournaments. (No tournaments for 8U)
What Is The Extra Time Commitment?
In addition to playing on a regular 4S Spring team, girls who play in the Select program will play with a different group of teammates. 4S Select teams will begin practice/play in January - March 31. For comparison, Spring teams will remain together from late January until the year-end tournament concludes in May.
January - March practices will be held on Sunday only. Time commitment on Sundays will vary from week to week, based on a variety of things. Some Sundays might be open, some might have a practice, but other Sundays might require a much longer time commitment due to a tournament-style game schedule and/or possible travel to other fields in San Diego County.
Select practices and games will be in addition to Spring practices and games, not in place of them. Spring Rec will take priority and if you are unable to commit time to both teams you should not sign up for Select.
Who Is Eligible To Participate In The Select Program?
The program is available to girls in the 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions. All girls in these age groups are eligible for consideration, though not all players are guaranteed to be selected for a team. Players can't "play down" out of their age group in Select. Interested participants must be registered for the current Spring season with 4S Ranch Girls Softball and commit to playing in the upcoming All Star season. Players are expected to participate fully with their 4S Spring team as well.
How Are Teams Selected For The Select Program?
The number of teams for each age group to be determined by number of players interested and coach commitment. The Managers selected for B-Select for each division, along with the members of the Rules Committee, shall meet and create draft rosters for each team. These recommended teams shall be submitted to the Board for review, amended if necessary, and final approval.
Who Will Be Coaching The Select Teams?
The Rules, Regulations, & Coaching Committee (RRCC) will review all Manager applications and provide recommendations to the board for approval. Applicants may be asked to attend a board meeting to answer any questions (at a board meeting or via teleconference from the RRCC) before a selection is made.
How Does Select Impact All Stars?
Select participation has no bearing or weight on the All Star selection process. Girls that choose not to play or are not chosen for Select are still eligible and strongly encouraged to try out for All Stars. Even though Select players have committed to playing in the upcoming All Star season, Select participation does not guarantee a spot on the All Star teams.
How much does B Select cost?
Select fees are to be determined, it is dependent upon friendlies and tournaments but the fee is generally minimal, less than $100 to cover umpire fees.
