Spring Recreational Information

4S Ranch Softball Spring 2020

What is Recreational Softball?

The recreational season is played in the spring. This season is meant to develop our athletes. Girls will learn the rules, techniques, and mechanics of softball. We will abide by ASA Rules, but also have drafted some "local rules", too. You can check these out on the Local Rule Exceptions tab above. We also hope to teach life lessons such as respect for all (our self, our teammates, our coaches, our parents, and the officials), perseverance when the game gets tough, and dedication to being there because every player matters.

*exceptions to local play: 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions may interleague with other local leagues.

Where/When is Rec Ball Played?

The Spring/Recreational league is played primarily on local 4S fields. This includes the 4S Ranch Sports Park located at 16118 4S Ranch Parkway and Stagecoach Field located at 10265 Camino San Thomas (both in the 92127 zip code). 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions could play at other nearby fields, depending on if they play against teams in other leagues. On average, there are two games per week, with a minimum of one practice. Games will be played both during the school week and on the weekends. The practice schedule will be posted when the season begins. (Note that on the practice schedule, we may also use the local parks and elementary school fields for practice.) The recreational season runs from the February 3rd (when practices begin), through early May 2019.

Who Can Play Rec Ball?

All girls are welcome to play 4S Ranch Softball. We will draft girls from ages 5-14 for the 2020 season. We will hold mandatory assessments the beginning of January 2020 so that we may ensure distribution of talent. 6U players are not assessed, and we will do our best to honor request for friends to play together at the 6U level.

We will field teams at each of these divisions: 6U (T-Ball), 8U, 10U, and 12U (interest list forming for 14U). Your daughter's birth year determines what division she'll be in. The breakdown is as follows:

  • 6U (T-Ball)  - 2013-2014
  • 8U - 2011-2012
  • 10U - 2009-2010
  • 12U - 2007-2008
  • 14U - 2005-2006

If your daughter is interested in playing up a division, please note this during registration. You will not be permitted to change the age division in the online system - it is based on birthdate. Girls who are interested in playing up must assess at both age divisions so that she can be placed in the most appropriate division based on her skill set.

Who Will Umpire The Games?

Typically we hire ASA trained umpires to umpire 10U and 12U games. Board members as well as  moms and dads from the league who have gone through ASA Umpire training will umpire the recreational season games. In addition to this, 12U+ players will also umpire younger division leagues; these girls will also have attended training. Please show your community spirit and support by thanking him/her after each game.
